The chefs were working as fast as they could to keep up with the non-stop flow of orders on this busy night so I suppose presentation had to fall victim to quick turnaround. The presentation certainly wasn't at the level I've become accustomed to elsewhere but I suppose therein lies the mass-production aspect of this place: Come here to fill up on some good and surprisingly varied sashimi and rolls but don't expect a plate that is a work of art. I suppose I had enough of an appetite left that I ordered three more rolls after I had devoured the first set. I usually find maki rolls and sashimi very filling but, hungry that I was, I ordered three maki rolls and harbored the hope of ordering more later to take advantage of the price. I was particularly ravenous that evening, having just done a training run and not having eaten since lunch. But we were ushered to a small table by the enthusiastic greeter, were given the paper menus on which to write our orders for soups, appetizers, rolls, etc., and we were off to the races. It was a Wednesday evening, so I was surprised to see the restaurant packed with people, the servers running from table to table to keep up with the orders. Would quality suffer? Would the choices be limited to just a handful? Would it be in a dump of a place? How could a place offer that? That's what I wondered when I my husband and I met up with three friends, some cold beer in hand (the restaurant is BYOB), at Sushi Palace's location at the end of the pedestrianized stretch of Division Street. The thought of all-you-can-eat sushi for about $20 per person just seemed too good to be true.
